Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She is also two-time Olympian. She was the captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who took home their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals for the floor and team competitions as well as the bronze medal for the balance beam, making her the most decorated American gymnast to compete at the Games. She won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals at this event. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all around and floor exercises. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the all-around individual, as well as the floor exercise. She is also two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She is also a five-time national champion in all-around competitions at national championships (silver, bronze, 2010 2011, 2012, and 2015). In 2013, she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber who was an ex-high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has stated, "I take a lot of pride in being able to not just represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community across the world. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete began her training at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she went to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year with online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
